Celebrating Robert Stechman

This site is a place for us to remember and celebrate Robert, our much loved husband, son, brother and friend. Please share your memories, stories and pictures - the more of him smiling and laughing the better.

Those that would like to donate to St Joseph’s Hospice Hackney in Robert’s memory can do so here too. They have been a great support to Robert and Katie and looked after him so well.

We will plan a memorial celebration for Bobby in the summer once restrictions are hopefully relaxed and we can all celebrate him in person together.

Thoughts

I worked together with Robert at bp for several happy years. He was an asset to the team - always friendly and approachable, a whizz with Excel and kept his sense of humour (and patience) over all my ridiculous questions. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him, and always knew he was up for a cheeky pint at all our socials. He will be missed. Best wishes, Rachel

I wrote these words on the day Bobby died and posted them on Facebook, so am somewhat late to the muchloved party but have been persuaded to add them here. Of course, with hindsight I could have said so much more, but at the time it felt right:- Just when we thought 2020 had done its worst, in one final heartbreaking twist it turned round and kicked us in the balls one last time. My beautiful friend Bobby lost his fight today after more than a year’s struggle during which he showed such strength and humanity and not one iota of self-pity. Thank you for almost 40 years of friendship, laughs, stupid nonsense and good times. Thank you for introducing me to so many amazing new things and reminding me of so many wonderful old things. Thank you for the gift of eternal youth, because with you I never needed to grow up. Love you for ever my brother.

I was fortunate enough to work with Robert for over 10 years. Robert was a kindhearted, unassuming man with a great sense of humour. He was well respected at BP for his deep knowledge and work ethic, and for being someone that could always be relied on. I’ll miss working and chatting with Robert and the friendly banter we used to have around matches between Watford and Crystal Palace. My thoughts and condolences go out to Robert’s friends and family. Best wishes David Muir
